Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Every October, communities across the nation come together to shine a light on an issue that affects millions of individuals and families domestic violence. It’s often assumed that domestic violence only means physical harm, but it takes many forms. Emotional, verbal, psychological, and financial abuse can be just as damaging, leaving scars that are often harder to see.

What Domestic Violence Can Look Like

Domestic violence may involve:

  • Control and isolation: keeping someone away from friends, family, or resources
  • Emotional or verbal abuse: constant criticism, insults, or threats
  • Financial control: taking or restricting access to money, benefits, or employment opportunities
  • Psychological manipulation: gaslighting, intimidation, or guilt-tripping

No matter the form, the impact can deeply affect self-worth, mental health, and a person’s ability to feel safe in their own life.

Domestic violence thrives in silence. By raising awareness, we create space for survivors to be heard and supported. It reminds us all that abuse is never acceptable and that help is available.

Counseling as a Path to Healing

Healing from domestic violence takes time, courage, and support. Counseling offers a safe place to process trauma, rebuild confidence, and learn healthy ways to set boundaries and regain control. At Impact Living Services, our trained counselors provide trauma-informed care that meets survivors where they are whether that means working through emotional wounds, rebuilding trust, or simply finding someone who will listen.

You’re Not Alone

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, you are not alone. Help is available, and healing is possible. At Impact Living Services, we walk alongside youth and families, offering counseling and resources designed to create safety and hope.

If you need immediate support, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or visit thehotline.org.
