Treatment Foster Care with Impact Living Services

Treatment foster care is a temporary solution for a child or youth who needs some extra support until they can attain their permanency goal, placing youth in the care of specially trained foster families. Children removed from their homes enter the local Department of Social Services (LDSS) custody and are placed in locally licensed foster homes, but some situations call for extra support. Impact Living Services steps in when a child requires additional assistance due to the trauma they’ve experienced or the LDSS does not have a home that can accommodate the needs of the child or the number of siblings that they may have.

At Impact, we believe in the power of positive change, and it all starts with intentionality.

We promise comprehensive support to every foster family, encompassing:

  • Tailored support hours for each youth, including life coaching, Independent Living coaching, tutoring, mentoring, and family coaching.
  • Implementation of an Independent Living skills curriculum for older youth.
  • Active engagement with the birth family.

At Impact, we’re not just changing lives—we’re creating a positive and intentional outcome for the future of every child and teen in foster care.

Become a Foster Parent

Impact Living Services Believes that Foster Families Deserve:

Elevated Training

Our Treatment foster parents undergo specialized training to become trauma-informed, creating a healing environment for children to explore their journey to recovery. Children who have experienced trauma often face educational, emotional, and behavioral delays, and our Treatment foster parents are equipped with tailored training to meet these unique needs.

Comprehensive Support

We believe in offering a wide range of support to ensure positive outcomes for children with specialized needs. Our focus extends beyond immediate care—we aim to strengthen the children’s relationships with their birth parents. Impacts Case Managers provide dedicated support hours to the foster family and the child monthly, providing individualized support. These families benefit from the assistance of dedicated professional case managers who provide crucial support to navigate the emotional challenges that fostering can bring to their daily lives. This is particularly significant as they address the youth’s behavioral, emotional, or medical challenges in their care. Additionally, we provide service coordination, respite care, 24/7 on-call support, and ongoing training. We understand that fostering can be challenging and require much effort, but the benefits and rewards are immeasurable.

Needed Financial Assistance

Families receive financial assistance to alleviate the extra expenses of welcoming another child into their homes. The foster care rates in Virginia are set by DSS and are based on the ages of the child, and each child will also have an assessment where additional funding may occur.

Transitions with Purpose

Treatment foster families play a pivotal role in helping children transition toward reuniting with their families. Recognized as the primary source for facilitating treatment, foster parents hold a significant role in aiding children during this transitional stage of life. They provide the essential resources to turn the goals for these children into a tangible reality.

Collaboration for Success

Various staff members collaborate with parents within the Treatment foster care framework to provide training and ongoing support. Their shared priority is to create a welcoming, nurturing home environment that fosters the well-being and development of the children in their care.

At Impact, we believe in providing homes and creating transformative environments where children can thrive, and families can reunite with strength and support.

Who We Serve

Our commitment extends to children and teens alike. We recognize the unique needs of each group, emphasizing the importance of stable placements and robust support systems. Impact’s foster homes that have teens emphasize learning independent living skills and putting them into practice to prepare youth to live independently one day. Children and teens living in foster homes often have multiple foster home placements because the foster family does not receive mindful, individualized support from their foster care agency. Impact believes in heavily reinforcing this support to improve those outcomes.

Although foster families are needed for all age groups, families that are willing to take youth 12 and up are crucial to help support them during a difficult time in their lives.

Who Makes a Great Foster Parent?

At Impact, we are searching for families passionate about positively impacting the lives of children and youth in foster care. Whether single, married, widowed, or divorced, with or without parenting experience, you could be the difference a child needs. We need families who offer children a safe and secure environment and teach them essential independent living skills, especially for older youth. To be a good foster parent, you must be willing to understand the impact of trauma and adverse childhood experiences and acknowledge that you don’t know everything. The best foster parents are flexible, ask for help when needed, and rely on professionals to assist the child placed in their care when necessary.

Our Reach:

While our physical offices are based in Lynchburg, Roanoke, Richmond, Fairfax, and Harrisonburg, Impact’s vision extends far beyond these locations. We seek foster families and referrals from all surrounding cities and counties.
