Impact Living Services received the Cabell Foundation’s $200,000 matching grant for our Vinton Building project.

This Vinton build matching grant marks a critical step forward, but we must raise $200,000 more by December 2025 to fully utilize it.

Will you help us reach our goal of raising $200,000 to provide safe, stable housing for foster youth? Your support—through a donation to our housing fund or by sharing our mission—can make a life-changing impact. Together, we can build a future where every young adult has a stable foundation to thrive.

How The Grant Can Change Lives and Outcomes

In 2024, we began building six duplexes in Vinton, Virginia, to house 24 youth in our Independent Living (IL) Program. These homes provide more than shelter—they offer opportunity, stability, and hope for a brighter future.

Each unit creates a safe environment where youth transition into adulthood with support like grocery stipends, financial planning, and counseling services. For some, these homes offer a fresh start and a place where young mothers can raise their children without fear of re-entering the foster system.

Owning these homes eliminates rental costs, enabling us to reinvest in expanding programs and preventative services. This effort ensures a lasting legacy of safe, affordable housing for foster youth while reducing poverty, homelessness, and instability cycles.

About the Independent Living Program

Our Independent Living Program focuses on offering essential resources, guidance, and encouragement at every step of this critical life stage. Additionally, we strive to empower youth by equipping them with skills necessary for stability and long-term success. Through personalized assistance, we ensure that each young adult is fully prepared for the unique challenges and opportunities they will encounter on their journey to independence. By tailoring our support to meet their individual needs, we help them navigate obstacles effectively while also embracing the opportunities that arise. Consequently, this approach fosters their growth and empowers them to thrive as they transition into self-sufficiency.

About the Vinton Building

Vinton UpdateImpact Living Services is proud to share the progress of our Vinton Capacity-Building Project—a pivotal step in ensuring stable, safe housing for foster youth aging out of the system. This initiative aims to provide long-term solutions for a vulnerable population by reducing dependency on rental properties, thereby freeing resources for program growth and enhancing service delivery.

Our ultimate goal is to own and operate all housing units for our Independent Living (IL) Program. However, we remain committed to ensuring no youth is turned away. If demand exceeds capacity, we will rent additional properties as needed.

Fortunately, our sustainable fee-for-service model partners with Virginia’s cities, counties, and healthcare systems to provide consistent funding. This model supports the IL Program’s annual costs, while allowing us to reinvest surplus funds. These reinvestments expand our reach, enhance our services, and ensure lasting impact for youth transitioning into adulthood. Every donation to the Vinton Build Matching Grant moves us closer to this goal.
