Impact Living Services offers specialized therapeutic services for children ages 4-12 and adolescents ages 12-18 with sexual development and behavior problems. Two specific programs offer comprehensive assessments based on the child’s age.

All specialized therapeutic services for sexual behavior problems are provided by a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Professional (CSOTP) or CSOTP Trainee. Clinicians are also trained in trauma-informed approaches/modalities such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).

For Children Ages 4-12

The Boundary Project

A structured, integrated, family-focused model for addressing problem sexual behaviors in young children ages 4-12, utilizing evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and expressive therapy techniques, like play, art interventions, and sand tray. This model provides developmentally appropriate and child-friendly ways of processing trauma and learning.

Structure of Therapy:
  • 12-session individual or group therapy process can include caregivers, designed to provide them with similar education and encourage communication and healthy interactions.
  • Topics addressed in sessions include defining physical and emotional boundaries, coping with tension, the power of touch, exploring the origin of the problem, learning the CBT triangle, impulse control, externalizing/containing the problem, personal mastery and self-esteem building, identifying resources, and family safety planning.
  • Requires full participation of families to provide children with support, guidance, a healthy environment, and nurturance.

Assessment of Sexual Behavior Problems in Children

A focused and comprehensive evaluation for children ages 4-12 with specific attention to sexual development and sexual behaviors. Allows clinicians to comment on children’s physical/emotional functioning, themes evident in play, language, behavior, or activities, along with relational issues, observed or reported symptomatology, communication style, spontaneous verbal communications, and differential developmental functioning based on age, gender, or culture, and children’s sexual development and areas that appear problematic or in need of intervention.

*Recommended before participation in the Boundary Project treatment program.

Structure of Assessment
  • Intake interviews with caregivers/referring professionals to obtain collateral information.
  • Four to six individual 50-minute sessions, designed to allow children ample time to become comfortable with the setting and therapist.
  • Clinicians utilize expressive therapies to allow them to communicate in nonverbal ways.
  • A full report to referring agencies with recommendations that can include the need for individual, group, and family therapy and referrals to a higher level of care.

For Adolescents Ages 13-18

Youth with Sexualized Behaviors Program (YSB Program)

A structured therapeutic program for adolescents ages 12-18 who have engaged in sexually harmful behavior, utilizing evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and the Risk-Needs-Responsivity (RNR) approach. The Good Lives Model is utilized as a strengths-based, holistic framework for intervention, promoting the enhancement of needs directly related to and independent of harmful sexual behavior.*

Structure of Therapy:
  • 12-18-month duration, followed by three months of aftercare**
  • Individual therapy, 1 hour, weekly
  • Family therapy, 1 hour, 1-2 times a month
  • Group therapy, 1.5 hours weekly

*A psychosexual evaluation and risk assessment is required before participation in the YSB treatment program. Results are valid for one year due to rapidly changing adolescent development.

**To ensure accountability in therapy and prioritize relapse prevention/community safety, adolescents must be under Court supervision (probation/CHINs) to participate in the full YSB program (group component). Adolescents and their guardians must sign a program contract and partial waiver of confidentiality at the start of services.
