Every child deserves safety, a sense of belonging, and the opportunity to thrive.
At Impact Living Services, our mission is to empower individuals and families through programs that build stability, strengthen relationships, and create lasting change.
Each November, Orphan Sunday and National Adoption Month, remind us of the ongoing need to care for children and youth. Kids who are waiting for permanent, loving homes.
The Heart Behind Orphan Sunday
Orphan Sunday began in 2002 in Zambia when a local pastor, moved by the needs of orphans and widows in his congregation, invited them to share their stories. His church responded with compassion, giving what they had to meet immediate needs. That moment inspired a worldwide movement that reached churches across the United States through the Christian Alliance for Orphans.
Each year, congregations set aside time to pray, give, and take action on behalf of children in need of family and stability. If your church, civic group, or organization would like to host an event or invite a speaker from Impact Living Services to share about foster care, adoption, or family support, we would be honored to participate. Our team is passionate about helping communities turn awareness into meaningful action.
The Story of National Adoption Month
National Adoption Month began in 1976 when Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis proclaimed the first “Adoption Week” to raise awareness of children in foster care. It expanded nationwide in 1984 under President Ronald Reagan. Then, became a month-long observance in 1995 under President Bill Clinton. Today, it continues to highlight the thousands of children and teens still waiting for permanent families. Many of them are older youth or sibling groups.
At Impact Living Services, we recognize adoption as one vital path to permanency, We also know that preparing and supporting families is just as important. Our programs are designed to ensure that children and caregivers have the tools, relationships, and resources they need to thrive long after placement.
Shared Mission, Shared Momentum
Although Orphan Sunday and National Adoption Month originated from different sources, both share a single mission. To ensure every child knows the love and security of a family.
When churches, agencies, and community partners unite, awareness becomes action:
- Faith communities can inspire compassion and mobilize volunteers to make a positive impact.
- Organizations can provide education and support opportunities.
- Families and individuals can step forward to foster, adopt, or advocate for change.
At Impact Living Services, collaboration is the key to sustainable transformation. Together, we can build a network of care where children are safe, families are strong, and communities thrive.
